Battle Field

Biting their tongues
that harbour
memories, chalked in their minds...
heavy feet
drag along
all in despite

Hardship etched in each of
their hands
elasticated hearts
pull like rubber bands

Suffer now
on you must go
lined up ready for battle
when is it going to stop
no body knows

Tears that trickle
down from innocent eyes
boys who became men
ready for the rise

' Mammy when is daddy coming home '
no answers to give her
she feels isolated
so alone

Wrapping them up in her love
like many other families
as the brotherhood
take up their arms

As each one takes a deep breath
firing into the air
he is stood still
thinking of his daughter
so young and so dear
